Our purpose:
The why
Our purpose is to enable people who are blind or have low vision to live without limits.
Our vision:
The world we strive for
Our vision is for an inclusive Australia that unlocks possibility, where people who are blind or have low vision live with confidence, connection and independence.

Who we are:
Our identity and role
We are here throughout life's journey — from early childhood, to moving through education and employment, to ageing well — and we consider the broader needs of each person. We are a:
- Trusted Advisor and Navigator
- Blindness and Low Vision Expert
- Partner and Collaborator
- Advocate for people who are blind or have low vision
Our impact principles:
The change we will make in people's lives
This is how we will make a difference for people who are blind or have low vision:
- Independence - The skills, supports and choice to manage daily life, move safely, access information, and live independently.
- Confidence - The capability, self‑belief and emotional wellbeing to navigate change, make decisions, and participate fully in life.
- Connection - Experiencing meaningful connection and belonging in community, relationships, work and society, with barriers reduced through inclusion, opportunities and partnerships.

How we will have an impact:
What to expect from us
- A whole‑of‑person view that considers blindness or low vision and broader needs to support independence, confidence and connection in all aspects of life.
- A focus on navigation, making it easier to access services, systems and funding.
- Listening to our community to ensure our services are designed with them and not just for them.
- Building capabilities, always raising the bar of expectations for individuals and society.
- Expanding our impact and reach by broadening our scope of services for all of life’s stages, and increasing our trusted partnerships, to support and serve people better.
- Lead societal change by advocating for accessibility, inclusion, and greater public understanding of blindness and low vision.
Who we serve:
Help where it’s needed most
Living with blindness or low vision impacts people differently, depending on what stage of life they’re at. We will use three streams to deliver our services when and where they’re needed most:
- Great beginnings: Giving infants, children and youth the best start in life, and shaping lifelong outcomes.
- Navigating change: Providing working age adults, including those who are new to vision loss, with services that support major life transitions and into employment.
- Ageing well: Providing services for older Australians to maintain independence and age well in the home, while remaining connected to community and family.
Our strategic imperatives:
The changes we need to make
These four imperatives show the big changes we will make, and mark what's different to how we work now.
Impact-led Organisation
Everything we do is geared toward making a positive impact in the areas of Independence, Confidence, and Connection. For every part of the organisation, we will measure, track, and hold ourselves to account in line with these impact principles.

Connected Services, Smarter System
We will transform how we offer services and support by considering the whole-of-person. Navigation will support a client journey that is consistent, seamless and enabled by smarter processes and technology, while client voice will inform service design.

Ageing Well
We will build new partnerships for generalist care, and help clients navigate the aged care system by supporting a greater proportion of people with blindness or low vision to receive specialist services and package management.

Organisational Sustainability
We will revitalise the organisation by improving our operational efficiency in our back office and non-client facing operations, ensuring Vision Australia continues to have the resources to meet the needs of people who are blind or have low vision into the future.
